National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) 2009

The story of a not-so-normal family living a healthy, happy life.

An experimental film about how civilization turns a blind eye to the chaos in the world and how all our problems will eventually catch up with us, no matter how far we push them away. The two unnamed characters personify this dynamic - one ignoring his troubles and the other embodying chaos itself. As the first character tries to ignore all of the signs of his eminent confrontation, the other character hurries to it. With subjects including violence, water, and world issues, DiHydrogen Monoxide exhibits the grief that we all endure and how ineffective it is to attempt to disregard it all. The first character is an example of the individual ignorance and the latter character epitomizes worldwide crises that are disregarded by the general public. The latter character catches up to the former character, ending in a chaotic confrontation.

A disturbed twin loses his battle with inner demons, much to the delight of his even more disturbed twin sister. Their personalities clash and climax in a twisted ending in which evil prevails. Thematically, the story examines the destructive jealousy between rivaling siblings.

A story of a young man maneuvering through the minefield called High School. Emblematic teenage angst comes to bear as the story develops: grades, parent's expectations, romance, competition, peer-pressure, parties, and an overall feeling of civic disengagement are the forces that invade the main characters life. The formative and difficult age of adolescent is a universal story that both youth and adults can relate to. Doldrums is a story about making the right choices during the high school years and how those choices will shape your life in the future.

Vengeance is a dark thing, and when one girl's tea party is broken up by her rowdy brother, her desire for revenge is sparked. As she turns to forbidden powers and sorcerous acts, one of her most beloved toys become something much more sinister. She sets it loose on a devious directive, to exact terrible revenge upon her sibling.

The Horwitz family had no idea what they were getting into when they adopted Peaches. He seemed well mannered, was very cute, and had a wonderful personality. But then things began to change, and pretty soon they had a large problem on their hands. As each family member comes to terms with loving Peaches unconditionally, a touching, hilarious story is built.

A father's absence has a profound effect on the family left behind. This is the story of a young woman who finally gets her father to make good on the promise of teaching her how to ride a bike.

For students of all sexual orientations and gender identities, there are few opportunities to learn about prominent LGBTQ individuals and events in California history. Positive historical portrayals of LGBTQ individuals are even more inaccessible. What is the impact on youth of knowing (or not knowing) that history? For LGBTQ and all youth, what is the significance of knowing their LGBTQ history? These questions are the inspiration for Don't Erase My History, a youth-produced documentary film created by San Francisco Bay Area youth members of Ally Action. This film combines youth narratives, archival materials, and interviews with prominent adults to capture the youth filmmakers' journey of self-discovery of their LGBTQ history.
